Some makes and models might have multiple filters available for the same size motor. I have only run into this on a few occasions, but the possibility is there. I have come across this with certain SAAB's and just a couple of others.
When you look up the filter for your car and you see multiple motors for that model, it will show V-6, V-8, etc and there will usually only one filter listed for the size. On rare occasions there might be 2 filters for V-6's, etc. This is when you would need the VIN decoder if you don't know what digit is the engine code.
Use this to tool to enter your VIN and it will tell you your engine code, as well as other information contained in the VIN.
